Meet Our NEW Electric Flower Delivery Van!
As part of Native Poppy’s commitment to sustainability, we are thrilled to announce that we’ve invested in a new electric delivery van!
The catastrophic flooding that affected our warehouse in January put our team’s grit and determination to the test. Thanks to the generous support from our recent flood fundraiser, we were able to embrace our core value “adapt, adapt, adapt”, replacing our totaled flower delivery vans with an electric delivery vehicle.
The Fundraiser That Made it Possible
Our journey towards a greener flower delivery service began when a strong storm passed through San Diego, severely damaging our Mission Valley flower studio. The flooding was devastating to our building, merchandise, supplies, and flowers. Two of our delivery vehicles were totaled in the flood. We quickly launched a fundraiser to replace what we’d lost and to move forward as best as we could. The overwhelming support from our loyal customers and community members allowed us to raise the necessary funds to invest in an electric delivery van.
Transitioning towards a more environmentally sustainable flower delivery fleet has been a goal at Native Poppy for several years, but losing two of our delivery vans helped move us into action sooner than we expected. We had plenty of research on our hands, looking for the best electric vehicle that would work for our team. We chose Mullen, a brand known for its commitment to innovation and sustainability.
We are immensely grateful to everyone who contributed to our flood recovery efforts, and we’re excited to share the positive impacts of our community’s support.
Introducing Our New Electric Delivery Van: Bumble Bee
Did you know we name each of our delivery vans at Native Poppy?
We’re proud to introduce our new electric van: meet Bumble Bee, BB for short, which will be our primary delivery vehicle for San Diego flower deliveries. While we won't delve too deeply into BB’s technical specs, it's worth noting that this electric cargo van boasts an impressive range and eco-friendly features that align perfectly with our values at Native Poppy.
You may have seen our peach vans out on the road here in San Diego – we want our delivery vehicles to spark joy, just like our flower arrangements! To decorate BB’s exterior, we worked with Cassie, Native Poppy’s Floral Design Project Manager, who is also an incredibly talented graphic designer. She created a gorgeous design that’s a delight to encounter, even during rush hour!
Decorating Bumble Bee for the Pride Parade
As a team that values diversity and inclusivity, we were so excited to participate in the 2024 Pride Parade!
We dressed our electric van up in a rainbow of silk florals, creating a gorgeous “flower crown” for BB to wear as our team marched alongside. We used a rainbow of gorgeous silk chiffon ribbons to decorate the rear bumper, attached a cute mini disco ball inside the cab of the vehicle, and BB was ready to roll.
Our team had a blast giving away free sunflowers to attendees of the parade – the perfect way to celebrate the conclusion of our fundraiser for San Diego Pride. We are so happy to support the LGBTQ+ community, and can’t wait for next year’s Pride festivities!
New San Diego Flower Delivery Rates
We aim to make ordering flowers online a seamless process at Native Poppy. With the addition of BB, we are pleased to announce new and improved San Diego flower delivery rates. Say whaaaaaat?! You betcha – with the help of our electric van, we have been able to slash our $30 delivery flower rates down to $10-$20. Providing more affordability and efficiency, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the joy of fresh blooms delivered straight to their door. With our new electric van, we can continue providing the best possible service while staying true to our eco-friendly values.
We’re Putting the Petal to the (Electric) Metal
The acquisition of BB is just the beginning of our journey towards a more sustainable future. We have exciting plans to further integrate eco-friendly practices into our operations, from continuing our partnership with local flower growers, growing flowers in our own Native Poppy flower garden, composting green waste, and switching to 100% compostable hydration packs for our flower bouquets. Our commitment to the environment and our community will continue to guide us as we grow and evolve.
At Native Poppy, we are incredibly proud of the effort we are making towards sustainability. The addition of our new electric vehicle, BB, is a significant milestone that reflects our dedication to a greener future.
